This is so beautiful! And your FIRST watercolour?! I can't get along with watercolour so I seriously respect you for this...the colours are really strong and blend together so well - stunning! :jawdrop:

I'm looking forward to seeing your future pieces already :D

These future pieces are already in progress, I'll try my best not to make this huge gap in drawing/painting again! ;)

As for the watercolour - several years ago it was an absolute mistery for me, as well. And when I finally realised how much freedom this medium allows - mixing colours, adding occasional patches of colour here and there, the whole process became much easier and so fun. Watching inspiring WIP videos by talented watercolour artists helps very much to achieve this realisation (Kelogsloops, Laovaan are my favourite).

Oh and thanks for your support, Rachel! ;)

No problem

I've seen Laovaan's videos before but I'll definitely check that other one out!  I love watching the process even if I don't end up trying it myself...although you never know, I might be inspired :D

*oogles* Isn't horseback riding fun? It's so addicting! I've been an equestrian for almost two years now. I used to ride a quarter horse, but I've been "upgraded" to a draft horse named Vince. I wish he had a big full mane like this painting! It would be so much fun to brush and braid (it's clipped so shooooooooooort.)

It's so colorful! Although, I look at it and something seems off. I can't put my finger on it (and I'm sure it's just my brain playing games on me) but the leg looks too high up or something. (Don't listen to me though; it could very well be my brain with the perspective. Autism plays funny games with depth perception.) I find it very beautiful and it very much reminds me of how I feel when I ride. Like I can conquer the world and fly. I'm always laughing at the end, even if I had a horrible lesson.

You're absolutely right - sooo addicting! ;) I can imagine what you are talking about, even though myself - I'm just an amateur, not a professional in horseback riding. But it's getting more and more exciting with each new lesson. Such a sweet feeling of freedom and only the most positive thoughts come from being with these wonderful animals.

About the paw - it's quite like that in the reference photo. But of course, some splurge of colour here and there might appear not that symmetrical, compared to original picture. But I'll tell you a secret- I think it might actually be one of the reasons why I enjoyed watercolours so much. The ability to make some mistakes! With graphite pencil drawing you have to make sure that everything fits the original reference perfectly. It becomes a little tiring with time. Watercolours allow so much more freedom, so I might even let myself make a few mistakes here and there, just for the fun of this feeling of freedom. ;)

And thank you so much for your deep and positive review!

I'm a bit "green" myself. It's take a long time to be like those professionals. One hoof at a time. Most people aren't cantering in, uh, 17 months. I've been demoted until I learn to stick my diagonals again. Sigh. I miss going fast...

My brain is a little funky. Unlike most people, I see in images and color, not words and/or linear so things like proportion get thrown off with me. NEVER trust me to tell you something is in proportion (or if your math is right.) Nope. I can tell you if your photo is crooked by even the slightest millimeter but not if the proportion is right. XD
